OH JOY! Friday~
I really love Fridays.
In the past 10 years, Fridays have meant different things at different points on the timeline. Ten years ago, when I was dating Jamie and we were not married yet, he used to drive the Tow Truck on Friday nights.
During those Fridays, the kids and I would have what we had dubbed "YouTube Friday", where we took turns choosing songs/videos and we partied and danced along with it.
Then a few years back, Fridays became the night that the kids would spend with their dad since he found the midweek visit too intrusive (it was a hassle to drive the kids from his house to school on Thursday morning). So I seceded and we went with the weekly visits on Friday night. Since Jamie was no longer working those evenings and we were newlyweds, Fridays became our Date Nights.
Eventually Annika stopped going to her dad's house on Fridays and Jamie started working at Lowe's every Friday. For a time, Annika would have Football Games on Friday night for Pep Band. I volunteered my vehicle to transport equipment and enjoyed the cool nights helping out the band and being in the energy for the school-spirit.
When Covid hit, activities came to a halt and so my then 18 year old daughter had no life anymore...nowhere to go. So Fridays have become what we call "Movie night" for her and I. Our Friday evenings usually start with a visit to Aunt Jean and then either shopping/cooking or ordering food for delivery and then movies (1 to 3 depending on how we feel).
One of my favorite Friday night movie nights was when we watched our favorite Disney Channel Movies: It was a double feature that day- Wizards of Waverly Place: the Movie and then the Suite Life on Deck movie. Another memorable evening was when we attempted to re-watch the series "Hannah Montana". I think we got about 3 episodes in before we were totally bored out of our minds. It was a good thought but no cigar. On another Friday after the new year we had watched a Selena Gomez Christmas movie- I think it was called, "A Knight at Christmas". It was more like an episode of MST3K since we just mocked the entire movie and giggled like little kids.
Anyway, it's Friday again.
I love my Fridays.
Alex is in classes.
Today he has Computer Science, English and Science. His 4th period class is Resource class during which today he will need to sort out some issues he is having with getting Social Studies Assignments uploaded into Google Classroom properly for grading. I reached out to the SS teacher first thing this morning because all of his grades are on the rise except her class. She responded saying that she has been asking Alex to properly upload the finished work (he sent it to her email but she cannot grade it that way). And the SS teacher says he is not responding. Which all makes me wonder- WHY IS THE RESOURCE TEACHER NOT FOLLOWING UP ON THIS???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I will use as many question marks as I please since this is my blog and I can do whatever I want.
I digress.
I had to get stern with him.
I interrupted his Comp Science class to ask him about this. He admitted that he had not yet done it. I reminded him that he spent a lot of time yesterday enjoying gaming and that privilege was extended based on his school participation. He nodded as though he understood. I expressed that I have NO PROBLEM taking away the privileges today that he had this past week, unless he can fix this. He agreed that he can indeed fix it.
I went into Aspen and saw that his grades are on the decline. He is:
1. attending every class
2. completing work and turning it in
BUT
what he is NOT doing is making the grade (at least a 68). He got a 14 on an English assignment. That is inexcusable. I briefly mentioned it to him so that he would understand that just because it is Friday, he is not on some kind of a vacation. There is work to do today ALL DAY until he leaves to go with Dad. Alex also has chores to do.
So busy day for us here. In other news, here are some photos of our morning:
Alex is bummed because he leaves today...it is his weekend with dad. Also, apparently this weekend we are going to have really high temps- 75* Saturday and Sunday! Jamie and I have already decided that we will do some yard work. I will need to pull the dead plants. I harvested the last of my oregano and parsley (see photo above).
Yesterday I decided to do something for myself to occupy my active mind. I bought and downloaded a program that Certifies you to be a Life Coach. I have no idea what I want to do with it...much like I have/had no idea why I took the Reiki Certification in September. But there you have it...maybe I am doing what my friend Erica suggested, and simply making space for what is to come. I am just gathering in towards me, the things I care about and value, while simultaneously distancing myself from those things that I despise or dislike or do not value. Law of attraction.
I will end here for now. HAVE A MARVELOUS WEEKEND EVERYONE!
~Namaste
