ELECT A PRESIDENT 2020
Good Day Americans.
May I call you all that? Some of you may be something other than American and if that is the case, welcome aboard...welcome to our nightmare (Aka election 2020). As of the day after the election, we are all sitting in waiting for the count to be completed. Here are my personal feelings about it (I will use memes):
Donald Trump announced that he wanted the counting to stop (smh). Biden announced that it is the American way to count every vote. Who is right?
If Nevada goes blue, they will give Biden the Electoral votes necessary for the win.
Is this the reason that Trump thinks we should stop counting? Do my fellow Americans actually agree with this? I am concerned here...yesterday as part of my son's school curriculum (this was mine and my hubbies idea, not the school), Alex and I watched documentaries about the 2020 vote on NetFlix. Very informative about the battle over who can vote and who decides that...since the beginning of our Country. My 12 year old has smart and strong opinions on the matter. As for my first-time voting 18 year old daughter...well... let's just say that she required a sedative last night.
Doggie hugs and low-grade alcohol that tastes like fruit snacks. It was a long night. Between my daughter and my husband, I had a lot of consoling to do. I deserve a SPA getaway...
NOW...
Let's talk about this quote from Abraham Lincoln.
Ole Abe was wise and we all know it. He was DEFINITELY dealing with the SAME type of divisive issues in his lifetime that we are currently dealing with now. How did ABE find a way in his own heart to be able to come to the statement above? It is a very serious question. Tempers are hot and feelings are very much on the surface for all involved and that means for every American who is invested in the outcome of this election (which I assume to be most of us). If you have never read about the life and thoughts of Abraham Lincoln, do it. He was remarkable. There are many good movies also that portray his nature pretty well- at least his older, wiser, presidential side. BUT...as we know from Andrew Carnegie's book, "How to win friends and influence people", ole Abe was a hothead in his younger years before learning diplomacy. He and Ben Franklin have had similar journeys. Ben also went from hothead to diplomat as he aged.
What makes the wise among us so calm in a world that is so chaotic? How can they stay composed? Have they all lost their passion? because we cannot tell anymore...you may be wondering.
I don't know how to teach you wisdom. No one can teach it. It comes from a place inside of you that tells you the truth from the lies. What makes Keanu say what he is saying above? Do the dudes with guns who love Keanu's movies think he is soft for saying this? Who do they think Mr. Reeves voted for? Who do they think that their idols in sports and Hollywood voted for? Also...what does it matter?
YOUR VOTE is a reflection of your belief in the system.
It is entirely personal.
But everyone will ask you...urge you...engage you in a deep conversation over the person that you will choose. If it is so personal, then why is it expected that I divulge my deepest most personal feelings to the general public simply because it is an election year?
Your vote is a reflection of what you value. Plain and Simple. The fact that so many others may value something so starkly different from you is clearly going to upset you because it is simply bringing people's deepest and most privately held beliefs UP to the surface where they can be seen and judged by others. Here is a news flash:
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY.
You CAN just vote and know that your vote was exactly what it is...a reflection of you. Others may not agree. ALOT of others may not agree. But as is the case about all things in life, what you do when things don't go "your way" says a lot about who you are. So what are you seeing today when you look at your reflection?
What would Ruth do?
We are literally MAKING history as we speak. Whatever we need to grow as a society, we are receiving that right now. Believe that and act like you believe it because YOU are attracting everything to you. So your ACTIONS matter, even if you feel that your vote doesn't.
